Your Guide to Minerva Beauty Styling Chair Bases
With so many styling chair base options, it can be difficult to know where to start when picking out the best base for your salon chair.
We’ve created a guide to help you understand the differences between the different styling chair bases we offer, and how to choose the right chair top to pair with the base option you prefer.
Salon Chair Bases: Aspects to Consider
All of our chair bases come with a 2-year warranty. Below are the most important factors to weigh when choosing a base.
Travel Range
A styling chair’s travel range is the difference between its lowest and highest point, measured from the floor to the top of the seat cushion.
Each base has a travel range, and the chair top it’s paired with determines the total travel range for the chair (because chair cushions vary in thickness).
Color & Finish
Minerva Beauty offers the following finish options for chair bases, which affect the overall aesthetic of your chairs:
- Chrome
- Stainless steel
- Black or White powder coated
- Black or White enameled
All are highly durable finishes. Not every option is available for every base style.
Design & Features
The chair base shape and profile affect both the look and functionality of your chair. Here are some of the key design features to consider:
Low Profile Chair Bases
Low profile bases (available in Square and Round) have a collar that attaches between the base plate and the hydraulic pump.
The collar can be removed to make the chair shorter for some stylists, or you can leave it attached for taller stylists.
With the collar removed, the low profile base is our shortest base option! Both versions are made with a solid metal base, making them heavy and stable.
Round vs Short Round vs Oversized Round Bases
Our round chair bases come in three varieties: regular, short, and oversized.
The regular and short versions are identical except for the travel range: 14-20” for the short version and 15-22” for the regular version.
Our oversized round bases are thicker and have a higher travel range than our regular round bases.
Floor Mounted Base
Our Floor-Mounted Hydraulic Base has the smallest footprint (7” diameter), which can make it easier for stylists to move around the chair, and for cleaning the floor. It’s a good fit for salons that want to emphasize a sleek, minimalist look.
Floor-mounted bases are a permanent installation, so they’re not a great choice if you plan to rearrange your layout. Our floor-mounted hydraulic chair base is special order only, and non-refundable.
Electric Chair Base
Our Electric Styling Chair Base raises and lowers very quietly and has the highest weight capacity (450lb) of all our bases.
Our electric base also has the highest travel range of any of our base options (17” - 25”), making it great for tall stylists. Note: the electric base cannot be locked in any position - it locks every 45 degrees of rotation.

How Different Chair Tops Impact Travel Range
Each salon chair sits a little differently on our bases, and the thickness of the chair cushion can have a big impact on the height.
Sometimes the chair bracket—where the hydraulic piston attaches to the bottom of the chair—can be slightly recessed. When this is the case, chairs that appear to have a thicker cushion may not impact the travel range as much as you’d think.
